He’d come to care for her very deeply, but he hadn’t been honest with her. He needed to confess that he knew about her Tea of Life calendar, which he’d been carrying in his pocket this past week.

He adjusted the heater vents to make sure they were spewing warm air in her direction. Now he understood why his sister had given him the coffee, but she’d always claimed not to be able to read him. Still, she’d seen this happening to Elaine. He reached for the thermos he’d set on the back seat and poured her a cup of coffee.

“This should warm you up. You can thank my sister. Her witchy sense said I’d need it, and she was right.”

She took a few sips and sighed. “Thank you. It’s perfect. Now, why were you coming out to see me at the Roadhouse?”

He reached in his back pocket for the piece of paper and unfolded the calendar. “Because of this.”

The lights on the dash were enough to reveal her flush of embarrassment. Amber eyes opened wide, and she covered her gasp with her free hand. “Where did you get that? Did you read it?”

“Hope found it on the floor in front of the couch where you were sitting the other morning. Yes, I’ve looked it over. Is Bradley aware of this calendar?”

“Oh, Seth, I’m so embarrassed and can’t imagine what you must think of me. He doesn’t, and you were never meant to see it. Your sister read my tea leaves and said I’d have to make a decision between the two men in my life who have blue eyes. Their future happiness would depend on my decision of who I…” She stopped and shrugged. “You know what I mean.”

“I don’t, not really. What does the question mark mean on Wednesday, the twenty-third?”

“She saw the number eleven in my tea leaves and told me I had eleven days to decide. The twenty-third, at the end of the day, is the deadline.” She curled her shoulders in and finished the rest of her coffee “Again, I’m so sorry.”

“Apparently, you haven’t made up your mind, because I don’t have a checkmark in the Kisses Great box.”

“No, you don’t.” Her voice trailed off, and her humiliation vanished. She leaned toward him and spat, “You knew all along what was going on! I thought you were being respectful and were afraid to kiss me because I’m the mother of your daughter’s classmate. You came out to get that damn check—”

Amber eyes blazing with fire drew him into their heat. In that moment, he couldn’t care less if he got burned. He swooped low and captured the rest of her uncomplimentary oath. His fingertips lightly stroked the smooth skin of her neck before applying the slightest pressure to draw her closer.
